VME News - VME Provides For Wakestock Festival 2009

For the last 9 years, VME have provided a complete production solution for Wakestock Festival in Abersoch, Wales. As the festival has grown, so too have the production requirements. With the festival in its 10th year, and attendance figures in excess of 15,000, 2009 was the largest Wakestock yet. VME, and our sister companies Euroscreens & Eurogenerators are fundamental to the success of the festival, each providing equipment and crew as necessary. Over 40 VME staff were on site for the duration of the festival.

Each year VME continue to provide the highest level of service required and expected by the festival organisers and customers, which is why VME is chosen year after year to provide a complete package for Wakestock.

The festival is broken down into the following stages:

Main Stage
For PA, 16 boxes of Kling & Freitag ACCESS (T5/T9/B5) were flown on each side of the stage, with 12 x B10 Subs per side. All processing was performed by K&F ACCESS controllers, and all amplification was Lab Gruppen. Stage monitors consisted of CA1515 pairs, infill Line 212/215, and drum fill CA1215 and SW118.

Consoles supplied by VME consisted of Soundcraft Series 5, Digidesign Venue and Allen&Heath iLive T-80 at Front of House and Soundcraft Series 5 Monitor, Yamaha PM5D and Digidesign Venue in monitor world.

Lighting consisted of a combined total or 78 Martin MAC2000 Wash & Profiles, 12 Robe 2500AT and 34 Martin Atomics + scrollers and 24 bars of PAR64, again controller by a variety of desks - VME supplied an Avolites Diamond 4 Vision, and several visiting engineers provided their own - MA Lighting's Grand MA, Highend Systems Hog 3 and a Chamsys MagicQ. Dimming utilised an Avolites Art4000 72 way touring rack, along with an Avolites hot socapex distro.

Euroscreens, a sister company to VME provided 2 giant LED screens hung either side of the main stage. Power generation was provided by Eurogenerators, with the main stage sets providing 1100KVa.

Second Stage
11 boxes of Kling & Freitag SEQUENZA line array were flown either side of the stage, with 2 flown as a center cluster. K&F's latest product, the 10B sub was used in a 4 high cardiod stack underneath each side of the array, with some additional ACCESS B10's to increase the overall range of the sub bass. All amplification for the array was Lab Gruppen FP1000Q series, processed with Kling & Freitag CD44 Controllers. Again, stage monitors consisted of CA1515 pairs, infill Line 212/215 and CA1215 + SW118 as drum fill.

Consoles supplied by VME consisted of Yamaha PM5000 at Front of House, and Yamaha M7CL in monitors.

Lighting consisted of 36 Martin MAC700 washes and profiles, with additional MAC 600's, 300's and 250's. iPix Satellite LED's were used on upright trusses at the back of the stage surrounded by Martin Atomic 3000 strobes and MAC 250's. Dimming consisted of an Art4000 48 touring rack and Avolites hot socapex distro. VME supplies an Avolites Pearl Expert for lighting control.

Two Barco G5 projectors were used to project onto each 14x10 screen either side of the stage, allowing VJ's to perform, as well as live video playback of the artists performing on stage.

VIP
VIP stage used 2 stacks per side of Kling & Freitag Line 212/215, and a small variety of MAC250 / 300 moving heads and Mad Lighting ITM scans. Control was an Avolites Pearl 2004.

Power Distribution
Eurogenerators provided over 25 generators for site, powering stages, production areas, camp sites and traders, along with 30 tower lights distributed around site. Sets ranged from 5KVa to 550Kva. All cabling, distribution and generator servicing / fuel management was provided by onsite Eurogenerators engineers, who were on call 24-hour a day.
